9. Jamaal Charles

Coming back from injury after two years away from the action means that we simply don’t value JC Superstar the way we once did. This year, he was healthy enough to make the Broncos 53-man roster, and after an impressive preseason debut against Green Bay, he won’t want to be standing on the sidelines for the remainder of his career.

The Broncos face the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend, a team who surrendered the third-most rushing touchdowns last season (20) and lost star linebacker Denzel Perryman to injury in the preseason. I expect this to be a close game, and that should mean a healthy dose or the running game by Denver as they look to avoid relying too much on their underwhelming starting quarterback Trevor Siemian. CJ Anderson is listed as the starter, but Charles is the number two and we might see a rotation and a form of “hot-hand” approach. Anderson is a personal favorite of mine, but the Broncos have no qualms about using their other backs, and if Charles looks good, he’ll be ridden.

We’re not getting the Jamaal Charles of yesteryear, but even 90 percent of the All-Pro would a great back in this league. If you’re in a pickle struggling to find startable runners, you could do a lot worse than Charles.
