The third season of Starz‘s historical romance Outlander kicks off on Sunday, and the Outlander season 3 premiere will have fans of Claire and Jamie in knots.
Season 3, episode 1 is called “The Battle Joined,” and starts as Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) has gone back to her original life in 1948, where she’s pregnant and has to repair her marriage to Frank (Tobias Menzies). Frank has to be pretty understanding if he’s going to stick by a wife who hasn’t even been in the same time period as him, is all we’re saying.
But Outlander fans will be wondering when and how Claire will get back to Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), whose life without Claire is pretty messed up, too. Jamie has to pick up the pieces from his military defeat and deal with not having the love of his life. That’s some serious weight to carry around. So how long until he tries to get Claire back, and what will be the consequences?

"The third season of Outlander picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank. Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire.As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion.
