12. Nick Diaz

We all know the “back in my day” Grandpa. Nick Diaz is only 34-years-old, but he’s been competing in MMA since he was 18. By MMA standards, he’s old. Diaz always fought under a set of rules, but he’d prefer to fight under Stockton rules, which basically means you go until you can’t go anymore. When the fight ends, and Diaz is on the wrong side of a decision, he has no problem voicing his displeasure and talking about walking 50 miles in the snow to get to school.

Furthermore, Diaz is that grandpa who always smokes and is lazy. Not lazy in the sense that he doesn’t work or do things, lazy in the sense that he’s not doing it unless it’s worth his time. You want Grandpa Diaz to show up your softball game after he spent all day cutting the grass and working on his truck? You better take him out to dinner after the game.

Diaz hasn’t fought in over two years, not because the opportunities haven’t been there, but because the right opportunities haven’t been there. The man wants to get paid and he wants to get paid big. Who can blame him? He slaved for years, fighting for little money before the MMA boom and now that the company is worth billions, he wants in on it. And if he doesn’t get the money he wants? He’s comfortable sitting on his recliner, smoking his semi-legal substances, and watching Wheel of Fortune.
