Winner: Harry Kane

Harry Kane must loathe the month of August. The Tottenham striker attempted 24 shots in the Premier League in August, none of which found the back of the net. On his first attempt in September he opened up his account against Everton, even though it was clearly a cross, something he admitted himself after the match ended. Kane still hasn’t scored a Premier League goal in the first month of the season.

Simple logic would tell us that this is simply a striker needing a few games under his belt to get warmed up, but logic would also suggest that he might have a fluke or a tap-in in the 12 appearances he’s made in August. Logic is fickle. Logic is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II.

Kane ended his relatively short drought on Saturday against Everton, notching his first two goals of the season. The cross-cum-shot was Kane’s 100th goal for the Spurs, an ill-fitting way to reach the milestone considering the stunning strikes he’s produced over his torrid stretch with Tottenham. Kane then produced an intentional 101st career goal early in the second half to put the match out of reach. He also scored twice against Malta in the international break. As Cristiano Ronaldo once said, “goals are like ketchup … you keep on forcing it (out of the bottle), then it comes all at once.”

Tottenham’s next four matches are against Swansea, West Ham, Huddersfield and Bournemouth, so Kane is likely to get even more ketchup out of the bottle during that run. Sometimes a lucky goal is necessary to get the run started.
