Winner: Long-range goals

Week four was the week of the long shots. Players tallied seven goals from outside the box on Saturday alone, and Chris Wood added an eighth on Sunday after an awful back-pass from Crystal Palace’s Lee Chung-yong.

Leroy Sane came on as a substitute in the 57th minute against Liverpool and his second goal in extra time was the best of the bunch. The winger received a pass from the most expensive defender in history, Kyle Walker, and let the ball run across his body to set up a beautiful curled effort that Simon Mignolet could do nothing about.

Alexandre Lacazette scored his second goal for the Gunners after a bit of interplay with Danny Welbeck saw him free 20 yards from goal. He set himself up for a bullet strike that curled over Asmir Begovic’s outstretched arms.

Harry Kane ended his scoring drought with a cross that Jordan Pickford misread badly. He was outside the box both in both length and width and played in a cross that snuck past the keeper for the 100th goal of his career.

N’Golo Kante opened up his scoring as well against his old club. The energetic midfielder lashed in a shot from 30 yards out that barely made it off the ground but somehow found the back of the net.

Pascal Gross scored twice for Brighton, his second being a 25-yard grass-cutter to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Watford won 2-0 against Southampton, both goals coming from around 30 yards out. Abdoulaye Doucoure and Daryl Janmaat struck fiery efforts past Fraser Forster to continue their hot start to the season.

It’s not often that these shots come off period, let alone so many in one week of play. Long may it continue.
