Memphis Grizzlies: Mike Miller

Jerry West never suited up for Memphis, and not too many shooters made their way onto the Grizzlies rosters either. However, the Grizzlies were able to snag Mike Miller away from the Miami Heat when they waived him via the amnesty provision. Miller had previously spent six seasons in Memphis following a trade from the Orlando Magic where he had won Rookie of the Year in 2001.

A 40.7 percent 3-point shooter for his career, Miller saw that number jump up to 42 percent in his seven seasons playing in Memphis and shot under 40 percent only once during that stretch. At 6-foot-8 Miller’s speedy release helps him get his shot off quickly against recovering defenders.

Miller had his biggest moment in Memphis during the 2014 NBA Playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The opening round matchup went the full seven games with the Grizzlies ultimately losing. However, Miller was on fire from beyond the arc shooting 51.9 percent on 27 3-point attempts over the duration of the series. In the critical Game 5, Miller drilled five 3-pointers to help Memphis take a 3-2 lead.

Miller, a two-time NBA champion, also collected the 2005-06 Sixth Man of the Year award while he was with the Grizzlies. That season he averaged 13.7 points per game and connected on 138 3-pointers.The next season he would set the franchise record for 3s made (202) and attempted (498).

His shooting ability has been key in his professional basketball longevity as he prepares to embark on his 18th season, after being waived by the Nuggets this summer a reunion with the Grizzlies could be on the table.
