Toronto Raptors: Jason Kapono

The Toronto Raptors didn’t join the NBA until the 1995-96 season and in their 22 years as a franchise they’ve given us highlight reel players like Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, and DeMar DeRozan. Yet, they haven’t had one player take hold of their best shooter of all-time title. The best one they’ve had is Jason Kapono.

Kapono checks off a lot of the boxes of some of his fellow choices on this list. 6-foot-7 or taller? Check, Kapono is 6-foot-8. Attend UCLA? Check, Reggie Miller and Kiki Vandewghe are also Bruins alumnus. Play with Shaq? Check, Dennis Scott, Steve Nash, Mitch Richmond and Glen Rice all played alongside the Diesel as well.

When it came to shooting 3-pointers Kapono cleared that mark with flying colors as well. In his time up North, Kapono shot 44.7 percent from 3-point range. He led the NBA in 3-point percentage in his first season as a Raptor as he shot 48.3 percent from deep. That number leaped up to 54.2 percent in his one playoff campaign with Toronto in 2007-08.

Shooting kept Kapono in the NBA as he played with six different teams over the course of his nine-year career. His 43.4 3-point percentage ranks fifth all-time in NBA history. He’s also a back-to-back winner of the 3-point contest and his 25 points is the second-most in any round of the 3-point contest.

Kapono ultimately decided to finish his career overseas as he helped bring Greek-powerhouse Panathinaikos a title in 2013.
