9. Javorius Allen

Disaster struck in Baltimore as Danny Woodhead fell to the ground clutching his hamstring, and it looks like his season (or at least a large part of it) will be another lost one. With seemingly only Terrance West as the other option at running back, the Ravens were expected to use a heavy dose of Woodhead both as a runner and in the passing game. However, when he went down and headed off the field, Javorius “Buck” Allen, a third-year runner, was pushed into the limelight.

In Sunday’s 20-0 win against Cincinnati, Allen actually received more carries than West (21 to 19) even though West had a few more yards (80-71) and a touchdown. Neither back had a catch, but it’s clear that on a team who ran the ball all day (Joe Flacco only had nine completions on 17 attempts), there will be a chance for someone to see a lot of fantasy volume.

While West has been the listed starter for some time, Allen showed a spark and had the longest run of the day with a 17-yard scamper. It’s still West’s job to lose, but if they come close to a split or Allen provides more big plays, he could be pushed into a bigger role.
