The veteran guard has announced his intentions to make an NBA comeback. It’s the good news we’ve all been waiting for.

Stephon Marbury has announced, via Twitter, that he is working on a potential NBA comeback. Following a stint overseas, the 40-year-old has his eyes set on a return to an NBA franchise.

Marbury hasn’t stepped foot on an NBA court since the 2008-09 season. But, the No. 4 overall draft pick in 1996 still believes he has a little left in the tank. Despite his two All-Star seasons earlier in his career, Marbury came off the bench and contributed very little to the Celtics in his last NBA season (3.8 ppg). His career looked to be heading downhill before reviving it overseas.

Like many NBA outcasts, Marbury traveled to China to revamp his game. He has played in the Chinese Basketball Association since 2010. In the Chinese league, Marbury has managed three CBA titles and six All-Star nominations. His best season coming in 2012-13, where he put up an average of nearly 30 points per game. He has played for two clubs in Beijing and announced recently that the 2017-18 season would be his last in the CBA.

Despite a stellar performance in China, an NBA return seems far-fetched. At his age, it just doesn’t make sense. Throughout the last few seasons, NBA fans have witnessed multiple super-stars fall off due to old age. Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, just to name a few. Now, think about how ineffective a 40-year-old Stephon Marbury would be.

Although it would be nice to see Marbury make an NBA comeback, don’t count on it. In fact, Marbury needs to just stay away from any NBA comeback talks and stop while he’s ahead. When the curtain closes, his NBA career wasn’t a complete failure anyhow. Now, that’s not to say 19.3 points and 7.6 assists is Hall-of-Fame worthy, but it isn’t too shabby.
