The latest Big 12 power rankings are in. Who moved up for Week 3?
Another week of Big 12 football is in the books. This saw things mostly stay status quo, with the top of the conference winnings its games, while the bottom lost their matchups over the weekend.
Baylor was the only Big 12 team to fall to 0-2 over the weekend, while Kansas and Iowa State suffered its first losses of the season. Did this cause any of them to rise or fall in the latest set of rankings?
Oklahoma had the high-profile matchup of the week, when it played Ohio State and won. Did the Sooners keep the No. 1 spot?
All this, and more, in the third edition of the Big 12 rankings. Who had the biggest rise or fall? Did everyone stay in the same position?
For the second consecutive week, Baylor suffered an ugly loss. The first was to Liberty, with the second against UTSA. Despite the program’s reconstruction, the Bears were favored in both matchups. So clearly there’s work to be done by head coach Matt Rhule, as his team is badly limping out of the gate.
With these bad losses, it’s difficult to expect Baylor to top anyone. They will play Duke on Saturday, Sep. 16. The Blue Devils are 2-0 and a 14-point favorite by ESPN. It’s reasonable and might be too low of a point spread for this game. Will Baylor be able to match up with its first Power-Five conference opponent?
Kansas fell back to earth in its second game of the season. This came in a loss to Central Michigan, which put them at 1-1. A 24-point second quarter from the Chippewas did in the Jayhawks, which was led by quarterback Shane Morris’ performance. He lit them up for five passing touchdowns and 467 yards.
Kansas will go on the road for its next game against Ohio before Big 12 play begins. It will be an opportunity for one last tune-up, as the schedule will get difficult for this team. West Virginia will be first, followed by the high-powered offense at Texas Tech. Can they hold up?
