A new Super Mario Odyssey gameplay trailer has been released, offering brand new looks at some areas we’ll be able to explore.

So far, 2017 has been an incredible year for games. We’ve seen The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5 all in the same year. If any of these games win game of the year, we can’t argue against it. However, there’s one more likely contender coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch, and it’s Super Mario Odyssey. During the Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, we got a new gameplay trailer, which only makes the wait that much harder.

The more footage we see, the more impressed we are. You can say it has been years since we’ve seen a Mario game like this. In fact, the last Mario game of this caliber was Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo GameCube. Super Mario Galaxy is fantastic, but it deviated away from the hub-world type of gameplay.

Odyssey looks to give us more freedom and the ability to explore a variety of areas. It’s shaping up to be the biggest Mario game yet.

In the trailer, we see all types of new worlds. For example, there are water worlds, which seem extremely vibrant and full of different colors. Most importantly, there seems to be a huge emphasis on a sandbox environment. This means the players will have a ton of freedom as to choosing what to do next.

Much like Breath of the Wild, it seems this game won’t be holding our hand for the majority of the time. The player will be able to choose where to go to next and how to approach a certain task.

Super Mario Odyssey launches on Oct. 27, 2017.
