The Arizona Cardinals will be without star running back David Johnson for the majority of the 2017 NFL season after he injured his wrist on Sunday.
The Arizona Cardinals took the biggest blow of Week 1 of the NFL season, as they lost their star running back for most of the year. David Johnson dislocated his wrist during the team’s blowout loss to Detroit Lions, and will now miss 2-3 months. Johnson is one of the best running backs in all of football, so it looks like it may be a long year in the desert for the Cardinals.
Deshaun Watson will make the first start of his NFL career on Thursday night, as his Houston Texans head to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. Both teams suffered terrible losses in Week 1, losing to division rivals at home. Watson replaced Texans starter Tom Savage at half time, and led the team to a touchdown on his first drive.
Staying with the rookies, Minnesota running back Dalvin Cook had quite the debut on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. Cook set the Vikings rookie record for most rushing yards in an NFL debut, as his 127 yards eclipsed Adrian Peterson’s former mark of 107. It was a stunning effort for a player who could wind up being the difference between the Vikings making the playoffs this season, or being left out once again.
Danny Woodhead was signed by the Baltimore Ravens to give them a multi-talented running back. However, he is battling through a hamstring injury, and will be forced to miss the next 4-6 weeks. The Ravens looked pretty good in their season opener on Sunday, as they went into Cincinnati and beat their division rival by a score of 20-0.

Finally, in the final games of the Week 1 slate, the Denver Broncos knocked off the Los Angeles Chargers at home. The Broncos got a solid effort from quarterback Trevor Siemian, who once again had to fight for the starting job this Summer. Siemian accounted for all three of the Broncos touchdowns in this one, throwing two to Bennie Fowler, while running one in in the team’s 24-21 victory.
