Champions League Power Rankings: PSG shine in matchweek 1

6. Bayern Munich
All is not right at Bayern Munich, despite an emphatic win to start this foray into the Champions League. Marquee striker Robert Lewandowski got the ball rolling against Anderlecht, scoring from the penalty spot.
However, the Poland international has recently been critical of the club’s spending policy, per an interview with Der Spiegel, via Jack Austin of the Independent. Specifically, Lewandowski doubted Bayern’s ability to compete with the heavyweights of this tournament.
His words seemed prophetic when Bayern were nearly breached twice by 10-man Anderlecht. However, the man advantage and the quality in Munich’s ranks eventually told.
Lewandowski may not be convinced, but this Bayern squad is still loaded with talent. Fellow goalscorer Thiago Alcantara ran midfield, while James Rodriguez and Arjen Robben also impressed.
Players like these being led by three-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti make Bayern a major threat this season.
