ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 3, 2017
Week two of ESPN College Pick Em had more close games at the top. I ended up with 54 points, which led the Reader’s Group this week. It was also enough to vault me into first place by one point over longtime nemesis Gamebreaker_boz.

(1) Mississippi over California:
Honestly, both teams looked somewhere between lethargic and terrible last week. Ole Miss against Tennessee-Martin and Cal against Weber State. The concern here for the Rebels is that they have no running game whatsoever. They can beat Cal without one, but they are going to need one very soon.
(2) Florida over Tennessee:
Let’s see…..terrible offense against mediocre defense and great defense against average offense. Advantage: Florida.
(3) Kansas State over Vanderbilt:
K-State’s fun is over. They actually have to play a real team in a real road game. Vanderbilt is good enough to keep this one close, but Jesse Ertz and his experience give the Wildcats the upper hand. Don’t be shocked if Vandy gives K-State all they can handle though.
(4) USC over Texas:
Texas may be better off if Shane Beuchele is out again. All kidding aside, Chris Warren needs to carry the load and gouge the Trojans like Stanford tried to. Texas can keep this close, but that defense will fall apart sooner or later. It will take a team with a really strong defense to beat the Trojans. Texas doesn’t have that.
(5) Duke over Baylor:
I should really put more on this one because the Bears are terrible right now. They have no rhythm on offense, and the defense is average at best. Duke is likely going to wipe the field with them, but I have this sinking feeling that Baylor could wake up at any time. That is the only reason the confidence is this low.
(6) Clemson over Louisville:
The Cardinals have had problems protecting Lamar Jackson against two teams that don’t have much of a pass rush. Clemson may have the best defensive line in college. Yes, they may even be better than Alabama. Clemson’s defense is going to control this game. Lamar Jackson will still end up with decent numbers, but not the victory.
(7) Wisconsin over BYU:
BYU should really be better than they are, but Tanner Mangum doesn’t have much around him this year. Wisconsin needs to run the ball, and when they get tired of running it, run some more. They have only struggled while passing this year. That is something will bite them down the road, but not here.
(8) TCU over SMU:
I’m nervous about putting a rivalry game this high. The battle for the Iron Skillet is always hotly contested, but TCU looks much better than SMU right now. Sutton will get his yards, but that SMU defense has no chance of stopping the Toadies on offense.
(9) South Carolina over Kentucky:
Kentucky struggled with Eastern Kentucky and Southern Miss. The Cocks won two games in which they were dogs. Cocky finally gets to play in Columbia this year and show the Palmetto State why they just might be good enough to win the SEC East. This is an exciting team. Kentucky….not so much.
(10) Oregon over Wyoming:
What, no Penn State? They have given me 20 points this year! Oh well, Oregon will do just fine. It’s strange to see them heading to Laramie, and for that reason, this game may be closer than it should. However, Wyoming can’t keep up with this team anywhere. Laramie, Eugene, the ocean floor, or the top of Mount Everest. The Ducks just have too many athletes all over the field.
