Near halftime, New Mexico QB Lamar Jordan had to be taken off the field after taking a hard hit from a Boise State defender.

Lamar Jordan of New Mexico was scrambling away from his own end zone looking for a receiver down field on 3rd and long. He was being pursued by three Boise State defenders and as he threw the ball one pummeled him to the ground.

Understandably, Jordan was shaken up by the hit and had to be tended to by medical personnel. He walked off the field on his own but looked slightly injured.

This was New Mexico’s last drive of the half, so he didn’t get a chance to come back before the break.

Before being struck, Jordan was playing pretty well. While not known for his passing, he can run the ball very well. In fact, most of New Mexico’s offense comes from their running game. Jordan threw just two passes in all of the first half. He completed one of those for 12 yards.

In the first half, the Lobos ran for 144 yards on Boise State. They out-gained the Broncos in the first half, but were unable to execute in Boise State territory. They went into halftime down 14-7 in this very important away game.

Both teams came into this game with a 1-1 record, so they each hoped to find a way to win and gather confidence before conference play begins.

New Mexico defeated Abilene Christian in Week 1, but fell to their in-state rival, New Mexico State 30-28 in a nail-biting loss last week. Meanwhile, Boise State beat Troy, but followed it up with a loss against Washington State. The Broncos should have won that game easily, but allowed a late offensive onslaught to let the Cougars back into the game and steal the victory.

It will be interesting to see how New Mexico fares without their starting quarterback.
