Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0)

Last week: Win vs. Alabama A&M, 42-0
Last rank: 11th

Don’t look now, but the Vanderbilt Commodores might actually be okay again this year. The ‘Dores are 2-0 and are playing outstanding defense for head coach Derek Mason. Though they haven’t beaten anybody legit, defense does travel and Vanderbilt will need to play good defense during their brutal next for games.

Vanderbilt’s next four games are Kansas State, Alabama, at Florida and Georgia. Kansas State is a tough team out of the Big 12. Alabama is a loss. Georgia doesn’t want to drop back-to-back games to Vandy. Maybe catching Florida off-guard in Gainesville is the best course of action? At least the end of the year is manageable for the ‘Dores to go bowling again.

Tennessee Volunteers (2-0)

Last week: Win vs. Indiana State, 42-7
Last rank: 7th

Like what we’re sure to see in two weeks in the Southwest Classic, whichever team loses on Saturday between the Florida Gators and the Tennessee Volunteers will be in an awful place heading into Week 4. While Tennessee is 2-0, the Vols should have lost to Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Nobody is impressed by putting 42 points at home to Indiana State.

The winner of this game between Florida and Tennessee will be the third team that will challenge Georgia and South Carolina for the SEC East crown. The loser … well, the loser might be the fifth or sixth-best team in the SEC East depending on what Kentucky and Vanderbilt do. At least they’ll be better than Missouri.
