Patriots at Saints: Preview, prediction, odds and pick
By John Buhler
The New Orleans Saints will host the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon. Here is a game preview, the betting odds and a final score prediction.
Week 2 is here. One of the best games that will be played this weekend in the NFL will be going on down in the Big Easy, as the New Orleans Saints will host the New England Patriots for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff on September 7. CBS will have the telecast with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo in the booth.
Both teams are coming off tough losses in Week 1. New England was humiliated in the second half of the Thursday night opener by the Kansas City Chiefs. Tom Brady struggled with his accuracy, as the Patriots didn’t have a single passing touchdown in the game.
New Orleans struggled against the vaunted defense of the Minnesota Vikings up in Minneapolis. When two dome teams clash, you rarely get something that looks that lopsided. The Saints will want to turn the page after a frustrating Week 1 performance on Monday night.
According to SportsBook Review, the Saints will be getting 6.5 points at home from the visiting Patriots. The associated moneylines for this game are New England -275 and New Orleans +235. This game’s over/under comes in at a combined 56 points.
Betting Odds
Point Spread: New Orleans +6.5
Moneylines: New England -275, New Orleans +235
Over/Under: 56
New England will have had 10 days to get ready for this road game against the Saints. You know that head coach Bill Belichick has ripped his team a new one after how poorly they played at home in Week 1 versus Kansas City. The Patriots will be ready to play on Sunday without a blink of an eye.
As for the Saints, they will have had only six days to get ready for New England. Sure, head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees will be able to put up some points on a Patriots defense that doesn’t seem to have a pass rush. The question is if anybody on the Saints defense will step up and make a play.
Both teams will score, as this game features two of the 10 best quarterbacks to have ever played in the NFL in Brady and Brees. However, one team could win the Super Bowl and the other cannot.

Though this is a home game for the Saints, they will struggle to contain the Patriots offense. New England will be able to come up with a few more stops defensively than the Saints. The Patriots win and cover the 6.5-point spread to get back to .500 at 1-1. New Orleans faces the harsh reality of 0-2.
Prediction: Patriots 35, Saints 24
