Canleo vs. GGG is ready for Saturday, Sept. 16 in Las Vegas, but how many knockouts does Canelo Alvarez coming into the fight?

It truly feels like the boxing world is all giddy with anticipation for the night of Saturday, Sept. 16. That’s because the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV will play host to one of the biggest boxing matches in recent history. Canelo vs. GGG is a bout fans have dreamed about for some time, and now it’s finally about to take place.

These two fighters are unquestionably elite, and the result of the fight on Saturday night isn’t going to change that. Gennady Golovkin will step into the ring at 35 years old still not having been defeated. That said, he’ll also be going up against an opponent that’s more talented than anyone he’s ever faced before in Canelo Alvarez.

To be only 27 years old, Alvarez is exceptionally seasoned as he turned professional at 15 years old. This will be the 52nd fight of his career, and he enters with a 49-1-1 record. However, a win over GGG would be massively important to Canelo’s career and how he’s viewed historically.

One of the big talking points in any Golovkin fight revolves around knockouts. The fighter out of Kazakhstan is one of the most prolific knockout artists in boxing history. With that said, Alvarez is no slouch in terms of career knockouts. But how many knockouts does Canelo have in his career entering Saturday’s fight.

Alvarez has notched 34 knockouts in his 51 previous fights, including three of his last five fights. That recent run involved a May 2016 knockout of Amir Khan that was just a thing of beauty. Regardless, it’s clear that he’s no slouch when it comes to ending a fight.

In terms of totals, Canelo has the advantage over GGG in knockouts. However, if we’re looking at knockout rate, Alvarez is a step behind his foe on Saturday night at 66.7 percent compared to 89.2 percent. Even still, he clearly has elite precision and great power and can end a fight even against the great Golovkin.
