Minnesota is wearing helmet stickers for its matchup against Middle Tennessee, which honor the victims of the hurricanes that struck Texas and Florida.
On Saturday, Minnesota took to the field for a game against Middle Tennessee. The Golden Gophers are 2-0 and will look for a third win, before Big Ten play starts in Week 4 of the college football season.
Within the first two weeks of the season, a handful of games were postponed or canceled. This was due to the hurricanes that devastated parts the United States. Florida, hit by Hurricane Irma, and Texas, hit by Hurricane Harvey, faced the most destruction of any state in the United States. Caribbean islands were impacted, as well.
Recovery from these hurricanes is ongoing and likely will continue into the fall, as people regroup their lives from these devastating storms. Efforts have also been made to donate and honor those impacted by the storms, which the Minnesota football team did for Saturday’s game. All players wore Florida and Texas state stickers on the back of their helmets:

It’s a terrific way to honor those affected by the hurricanes and something that can’t go unnoticed. That goes for donation efforts and other ways of honoring the victims. Houston Texans star JJ Watt notably raised over $30 million in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort, while players from other professional sports teams donated large sums to aid those impacted in all states. This goes beyond sports, as well, as it’s a country-unifying move to help those in need or honor the affected.
