Amidst all of the craziness through the first two weeks of college football, it feels as if the TCU Horned Frogs have been overlooked. They’re ranked 20th in the country at 2-0, including a win last week over Arkansas in impressive fashion. Now they could face another sneaky test on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Week 3 as they welcome the SMU Mustangs to Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Gary Patterson’s Horned Frogs have often been known for their offense, but that’s not wholly been the case this year. Kenny Hill still has potential, but has still struggled to put it together. Instead, TCU has thrived to this point on their defense. They shut out Jacksonville State in the opener, then allowed just seven points last week.
What’ll be interesting, though, is that SMU is likely the best offense they’ve played to date. Quarterback Ben Hicks and running back Xavier Jones are both talented and capable of big plays. However, the true star for the Mustangs is wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who’s coming off a four-touchdown performance last week. If this offense can break down the TCU defense, things could get interesting quickly.
With TCU being ranked coming into this game while SMU is not, the home team is a heavy favorite with the spread at -20 in favor of the Horned Frogs (per 5Dimes via Sportsbook Review). Meanwhile, the Frogs are also -1150 favorites as it pertains to the moneyline with the Mustangs sitting at +950. Lastly, the Over/Under is set at 64.5 points.

Frankly, it feels weird that TCU would be so heavily favored. Sure, they have played far better teams to this point, but SMU is a team with a ton of offensive firepower. If they’re able to get into a rhythm, anything can happen in this game. Thus, you definitely don’t want to miss it.
