Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux is official
Boxing continues to impress with great fights. Another fight has been announced and it’s Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux.
2017 has been the biggest year in boxing since who knows how long. We’ve already seen one of the biggest fights in combat sports history, that being Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. There’s also Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin, which is set to happen tonight. The year is far from over, though. Announced by Bleacher Report, Vasyl Lomachenko will defend his WBO Junior Lightweight title against Guillermo Rigondeaux. This may be the best boxing match of the year.
This is the fight that needs to happen for both fighters. Although Lomachenko (9-1) is still very young in his professional boxing career, he has loads of amateur experience. His amateur record stands at 396-1. Rigondeaux also boasts a fantastic amateur record, going 463-12. Fans have been clamoring for a step up in competition for Lomachenko and Rigondeaux is exactly the man he needs to fight right now.
In his last time out, Rigondeaux faced off against Moises Flores. Originally, it was a first round knockout win for Rigondeaux. Now, the result is a no contest because of a wrong call from the referee. Rigondeaux has the experience, is great defensively, and should be Lomachenko’s biggest test to date.
For Lomachenko, he last fought in August against Miguel Marriaga. It was a dominant showing from Lomachenko, who imposed his will on Marriaga from the opening bell. Lomachenko is incredibly fast, has amazing combinations, and uses angles extremely well. This fight is very interesting and should be a barn-burner.

Lomachenko may have the slight edge since Rigondeaux will be coming up in weight, fighting at 130 pounds. But, this will be a technical spectacle on behalf of both competitors and it’s a must-see.
The fight will happen on Dec. 9 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
