Canelo vs. GGG: Will there be a rematch?
By Nick Tylwalk
The boxing world got the fight it really wanted in Canelo-GGG, but now that it’s over, the obvious question is whether the two fighters will be willing to run it back.
The tough thing about being a boxing fan is that the anticipation can lasts for years and then even the biggest fight that goes the distance is over in less than an hour. At least in the case of Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, the fight turned out to be worth the wait.
It wasn’t necessarily bombs away for 12 rounds, but it was extremely close, tense and competitive throughout. For boxing fans, it’s hard to say it didn’t live up to the hype.
It also ended in a draw, so it’s not too early to start thinking about whether Canelo and GGG will face each other again. So will we get a rematch?
Max Kellerman asked both fighters about it on the PPV broadcast after the final bell.
“Yes, of course, obviously yes,” Alvarez said. “If the people want it, yes.”
“Of course I want a rematch,” Golovkin. “I want a fight, rematch for next fight, I want my belt.”

That’s about as decisive as it gets, straight from the horse’s mouth. Roy Jones said he felt a second matchup would give the world a clear winner, and Jim Lampley added that the intrigue will be whether the first round of the second fight will be the 13th round of the first fight or Round 1 of something entirely new.
Here’s hoping we get to find out. One suspects there will be millions of reasons to make sure it does.
