The Arizona Cardinals beat the Indianapolis Colts in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Week 2, 16-13. Here are all the highlights, a game recap and the final score.

It wasn’t pretty, but was it exciting. The Arizona Cardinals fight their way back to beat the Indianapolis Colts to win on a Phil Dawson field goal in overtime, 16-13. Arizona gets back to .500 at 1-1, while the Colts stumble to 0-2 on the year.

This was a game of redemption for the Cardinals, who played largely awful football in the first half to the Colts. Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer struggled to get into rhythm offensively in the first half. The Cardinals trailed Indianapolis 10-3 at the break.

Despite not having their best offensive player on the team available in running back David Johnson, Arizona persevered its way to victory. Palmer had a sweet touchdown pass to wide receiver J.J. Nelson to bring the Cardinals back to life in this game.

A Tyrann Mathieu interception of new Colts starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett would help set up the game-winning field goal in overtime for Dawson. In essence, the Colts played about as well as they could with their lackluster personnel sans franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

Arizona would not have beaten most teams, but the Cardinals willed their way to victory in this one. The Cardinals may only be the third best team in the NFC West after the Seattle Seahawks and maybe even the Los Angeles Rams. However, this is a win the team desperately needed to stay alive in division play.

As for the Colts, well, they are the only winless team in the AFC South. All three of their division rivals have a win on the year. This looks to be a free for all in the AFC South this year. However, the Colts do not have the personnel to hang with the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Tennessee Titans for all four quarters in a rivalry game.

Three Stars

  1. J.J. Nelson: Nelson had five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown.
  2. Karlos Dansby: Dansby had 10 tackles, six solo and one for a loss of yardage.
  3. Frank Gore: Gore had 14 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown.
