The Oakland Raiders ran their record to 2-0 on Sunday, as they easily dispatched of the New York Jets inside the O.co Coliseum.

In a game billed to be a blowout, the New York Jets actually played the Oakland Raiders tough throughout the first half. In fact, the Raiders blew a 14-0 lead early on, and the Jets scored ten unanswered. However, a fumbled punt return set the Raiders up on the four-yard line, and Marshawn Lynch punched it in to give the Raiders a 21-10 halftime lead.

Star quarterback Derek Carr got the party started early, hitting Michael Crabtree on a flea flicker during the Raiders first offensive drive. Carr would hit Crabtree for two touchdown strikes in the first quarter, as he would prove to be his main target early. The Jets cut the lead to seven with a Josh McCown to Jermaine Kearse TD pass, and a field goal would pull them within four. The punt return before half was a dagger, as it set the stage for the rest of the game.

Oakland dominated the second half, and would go up by the score of 28-13 as the teams went to the fourth quarter. They would continue to keep their foot on the gas, as Jalen Richard broke off a 53-yard run for a score, and then Carr hit Crabtree for the third time in the game. Many believed this would be the worst game of the weekend, and they would be right.

For Oakland, they have to be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Carr looks completely healed from his injury last season, and the three-headed monster at running back ran all over a very good Jets defensive front. If they can stay healthy, this team has the potential  to win 12 games for the second straight season.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

They do not consider Derek Carr one of the best young quarterbacks in the league for nothing. Carr is the kind of quarterback who can make the big play at any time, and in this game, he had two touchdown passes before the game went to the second half. He is always a threat to make the big play, and on Sunday, he proved to be the biggest star on the field.

2. Michael Crabtree, Oakland Raiders

Michael Crabtree is considered the Raiders No. 2 wide receiver, but he played second-fiddle to nobody on Sunday. The veteran wideout caught all three of Derek Carr’s touchdown passes, and from all areas of the field. The Jets made a conserted effort to shut down Amari Cooper, and they paid for it dearly by letting Crabtree eat.

3. Marshawn Lynch, Oakland Raiders

It was quite the homecoming for Marshawn Lynch, who scored a touchdown in his home debut. He ran the ball hard for the Raiders, and continues to give the team that threat in the backfield they have been missing. His counterparts, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, also put their stamps on this game, which proved to be a blowout win for Oakland.

Betting Odds

The Oakland Raiders were huge favorites in this one, coming in as 14-point favorites against a bad Jets team. The Raiders covered that number, and more, while playing a big role in the teams going over the over/under mark of 43. All odds can be found at SportsBook Review throughout the week.
