The New England Patriots look good early against the New Orleans Saints, especially after Rob Gronkowski went full Gronk for a touchdown.

Last week, the Patriots were humiliated at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City rolled up 537 yards and 42 points in a 42-27 win, while the Patriots struggled to generate much offense in the second half.

While most of the scrutiny went to Bill Belichick’s defense and Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski also had a rough night. Defended by Eric Berry most of the night, Gronkowski only managed two catches and made no real impact on the contest.

On Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Saints, Gronkowski decided to make his presence known in a much more familiar way. Leading 6-3 in the first quarter, Brady was flushed in the pocket but found Gronkowski down the right sideline, who proceeded to embarrass the New Orleans’ secondary before rumbling into the end zone for a 51-yard score.

Considering how much we expected from the Patriots going into the season, there is no reason to expect them to go into the tank. Not to mention their five Super Bowl wins and seven appearances on Super Sunday.

With Julian Edelman out for the season with a torn ACL, the Patriots need a huge season from Gronkowski and new-addition Brandin Cooks. New England also has to play better on the defensive side of the ball, starting with a real pass rush, something that was sorely lacking against the Chiefs.

If New England’s play against the Saints early on is a true indication of how it will play moving forward, the Patriots will be just fine. Gronk included.
