Everyone had a Younghoe Koo joke after Chargers kicker misses game-winner
By Josh Hill
Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo missed a game-winning kick against the Miami Dolphins, and everyone on Twitter had a joke about his name.
Los Angeles Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo went from being a story everyone dug (Korean-American kicker in the NFL) to the butt of every Twitter comedians’ joke.
In back-to-back weeks, Koo missed a game-winning field goal. Last week his attempt was blocked, but this week he just proper missed on his own. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-2 and also made Koo into a joke in the Twitterverse.
Here’s his missed kick, which barely missed:
Philadephia 76ers social media G.O.A.T. Joel Embiid unofficially got things kicked off:
From there, the floodgate was opened:
It’s a little unfair to turn on Koo so quickly, especially after he technically only missed one kick. The block could be attributed to his inability to nail the right trajectory but he made the first attempt after the Broncos called a timeout.
Making fun of his name on Twitter (with the same joke by a hundred different accounts) doesn’t change how cool his story is. Koo was born in Korea but moved to America in the sixth grade, where he started to develop a love of football.
He survived New Jersey, which means one would believe he can survive some ribbing on Twitter. What we can’t abide is that Koo’s missed kick afforded Jay Cutler the chance to grin his way to a 1-0 start to his revived (?) career.
That’s what ain’t Koo.
