Sean Payton

Head Coach, New Orleans Saints

Nothing is more tragic than when something overstays its welcome. Breaking Bad ended after five seasons and is regarded as one of the best television shows of all-time. Friends, as beloved as it was, is often criticized for staying on the air well after it had grown stale.

Drew Brees and Sean Payton are Friends, and it’s time to cancel this series and put everyone out of their misery.

Week 2’s shelling by the Patriots is just another in a growing line of disappointments that Payton has turned in. It’s not a new question but again it’s being begged when his borrowed time will expire. It has been almost a decade since the Saints won the Super Bowl, yet Payton is somehow still riding that wave. It appears ready to crash, and that might be best for everyone.

It’s long been believed that the Payton era ends when the Brees one does, and that time is coming. New Orleans would be wise to find a quarterback of the future, allow Brees to mentor him and do so under the tutelage of whoever will be guiding the team into the future. That coach is not Sean Payton, and his days are numbered on the bayou.
