Here’s how the Power Five college football conferences stack up following an exciting Saturday slate around the nation.
Week three of the 2017 college football regular season brought chaos and close calls to a few of the top teams in the nation.
Saturday’s best game took place in Los Angeles, where Texas and USC delivered an instant classic in their first meeting since the iconic 2006 Rose Bowl. After the Longhorns took the lead with under a minute remaining, Sam Darnold calmly drove his team down the field for a game-tying field goal, and the Trojans came up with a takeaway in double overtime for the 27-24 win.
That wasn’t the only wild ending of the day, as Florida beat rival Tennessee on a 63-yard Hail Mary to cap off a frustrating game for both offenses. Mississippi State picked up the biggest upset of week three, at least by ranking, with a dominant 30-point win over LSU.
With nonconference play starting to wind down, the state of each Power Five conference is becoming more clear. The Big 12 has a great shot to get into the College Football Playoff with two legit contenders, while the SEC and Pac-12 looked a little shaky overall in week three.
