There’s plenty of ways to watch the Detroit Lions collide with the New York Giants collide as Week 2 of NFL 2017 comes to a close on Monday Night Football.

Some probably forget that early in his NFL career, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was much maligned for his inability to stay on the field. In his first two seasons, he combined to play and start in only 13 games. He managed 19 touchdown passes while being picked off 21 times – 20 of those in his rookie campaign.

However, the first overall pick in the 2009 draft has not missed a game since and has led his team to three playoff appearances in six season. However, a postseason victory has eluded the nine-year quarterback to date and the franchise since 1991.

But Stafford’s current streak of 97 regular-season starts dwarfs in comparison to veteran Eli Manning. As a rookie, he didn’t get the nod until there were seven games left in the ’04 campaign. Make it 200 consecutive regular-season starts for the former Ole Miss product. Unfortunately, while Stafford threw four touchdown passes in last week’s 35-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals, Manning and the Giants failed to find the end zone at all last Sunday night at Dallas.

Last season, the Lions visited MetLife Stadium in December (Week 15) and left with a 17-6 loss. It was the first of three straight setbacks to end the season. It was a skid that cost Detroit the NFC North title.

While it’s far from a must win for the 0-1 New York Giants, it is a crucial contest a team that is looking to find itself on offense. Ben McAdoo’s team already has a one NFC East loss on its resume. And a home conference setback would not certainly not help the team down the road as well.
