Over the next few days The Step Back will be unveiling its list of the top 25 NBA players under age 25. Following the development of young players is one of the most thrilling parts of NBA fandom. Promising prospects make us imagine the future of the league. They make us think about which guys have the skill, personality and drive to be part of the NBA’s next wave of superstars and champions. Young draftees represent a path to a brighter future, filled with hope, joy and ultimately, victory.
Well, the flip side of that path to success lies upon the boulevard of broken dreams. Sometimes the countless hours we spend reading scouting reports and mock drafts, watching YouTube highlight reels and convincing ourselves that a guy will be a star, are all for naught; sometimes our hopes are misguided and the guys we vouch just can’t live up to the hype.
The players that made the list below scored very poorly in our 25-under-25 rankings. They all entered the NBA as top-10 picks and each one had a fair amount of buzz surrounding him. Their careers haven’t panned out so far. Here are the six biggest disappointments under the age of 25 in the NBA.
