6. David Njoku

There’s a strong chance many of your league mates avoided this year’s group of rookie tight ends for one simple reason – they are rookie tight ends. While O.J. Howard, Evan Engram and Njoku all possess outstanding traits and could have fantastic careers, we’re generally wise in making sure we avoid rookie tight ends who don’t tend to produce. However, this year’s group is truly special, and they are starting to make their mark.

Evan Engram looked fantastic in his rookie debut last week despite a rough offensive showing by the New York Giants, while Howard could only manage one catch in Tampa Bay’s rout of the Chicago Bears. But it’s Njoku who, despite his “rawness”, might have the biggest and most immediate impact of the trio. Njoku made a leaping grab to secure his first career touchdown, and his role should continue to grow throughout the year.

The Cleveland Browns would be wise to use this season to involve their young playmakers as much as possible, and Njoku is one of their potential stars. There are concerns the Browns have lost Corey Coleman to another break in his hand, and Kenny Britt is not living up to his big contract so far.
