If you’re still mad about Michael Phelps racing a shark during Shark Week, the Olympic king himself has a nice response for you.

Shark Week on the Discovery Channel is always a huge event every year, but this year things seemed a little more important because, well, the channel was promoting the most decorated Olympian ever racing a shark. Yes, Michael Phelps was going to race a freaking shark in the water!

Of course, lots of fans tuned in that night to watch Phelps get into the water with one of the most dangerous creatures on the face of the earth for a race, some wondering whether or not Phelps would be gobbled up by the Great White. And those same people were pretty pissed off when they came to find out that Phelps was not racing an actual shark, rather it was just a CGI version. They all felt cheated and robbed, and of course the backlash on social media was all over the place.

By now, though, you’d think the silly outrage would have blown over. But, it hasn’t, as people are still criticizing Phelps for what they consider a stunt, more or less.

Well, look, he just wants you to have some damn common sense. In an interview with For The Win, Phelps talked about people still coming at him for the race and also what his response generally is.

"I’ll run into people daily or weekly like, “Oh yeah, you didn’t even race the shark,” and I’m like, “OK dude,” if you really have common sense, you’d understand I’m not going to get into the water and swim next to a great white shark. It’s just natural common sense. That should never happen and no one should ever do that."

Now I can’t speak for a lot of the people going up to Phelps personally, but I can speak for Twitter and say that sometimes common sense is not one of the strongest traits roaming around that website.

Still, he has a point. Now did I sometimes think that he was getting in there with an actual shark? Of course I did, but that common sense set in afterwards in thinking that, as he said, it would be a really dumb thing to do to get into the water with one of those.
