ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 4, 2017
ESPN College Pick Em wasn’t as kind last week. The leader in our group, Brian Prete, had 50 points. I came up with a season-low 42. I put too many points on the South Carolina game, and missed two others under five points. Two people in our group did pick Kentucky, and Brian gained separation from being the only one to pick Vanderbilt!
I am still holding down second place in the Fantasy CPR readers group. Gamebreaker-boz took the top spot back for this week.

(1) Texas A&M over Arkansas:
This is a tough one. Neither team has looked all that good, especially the Arkansas offense and the A&M defense. The thing that gives the Aggies the advantage is their ability to score in bunches. They did it against UCLA and against Louisiana just last week. And, well, Arkansas is wearing uniforms that model those of the Cowboys, so the “Cowboys” losing in Jerry World wont be anything unusual.
(2) Houston over Texas Tech:
The only reason I’m picking Houston is that they have actually played some defense. Texas Tech’s defense is not as terrible as most that have come through Lubbock, but Houston’s is better. Nic Shimonek, I’d like you to meet Ed Oliver. Good luck!
(3) Notre Dame over Michigan State:
The Spartans are better than they were last year, but that isn’t saying a whole lot. As good as the Irish looked against a solid Georgia offense a couple of weeks ago, I have to give Notre Dame the edge. Michigan State has three running backs and a quarterback to throw at the Irish, but Notre Dame has proven they can stop the run. I’m not sure Michigan State can throw to win, and they would likely have to.
(4) Florida over Kentucky:
I’m really on the fence about this one. Kentucky forced a young quarterback into mistakes to beat South Carolina. They will likely to the same to Feleipe Franks. The difference here is that Florida’s defense can, and will dominate this game. It will be a low scoring battle, but I think the Wildcats make a critical mistake that allows the Florida defense to score. Their offense might not.
(5) Georgia over Mississippi State:
Watching that LSU game last weekend, I couldn’t help but notice just how undisciplined the Tigers were on defense. Targeting and pass interference penalties on third down that allowed the Bulldogs to stay on the field. All of those extra chances were taken advantage of by Nick Fitzgerald. Georgia may not be more talented, but they are sure more disciplined. They aren’t going to beat themselves like LSU did. However, the only reason I’m picking Georgia is that this is in Athens. Mississippi State would take in in StarkVegas.
(6) Stanford over UCLA:
That UCLA defense has no excuse to be that bad. Stanford plays sound defense, and has the secondary to lock down the receivers so that Josh Rosen has no one to throw to. The Cardinal are going to turn this into a defensive fight, which is a fight UCLA can’t win.
(7) Washington over Colorado:
I’m not entirely sure what to think of Colorado. They are good, but not good enough to win in Seattle. The young Washington defense is starting to come around just in time for conference play. And the Huskies offense is good enough to pull that sled back into the playoff.
(8) Duke over North Carolina:
I’m a little nervous that Duke didn’t blow out Baylor, but I didn’t see much improvement in the Tarheel defense. Old Dominion just didn’t have the horses on offense to exploit them. Duke does. Still, Duke is favored to win in Chapel Hill for the first time in 18 years. They were shut out in that game. That said, the talent discrepancy seems larger now than it was then.
(9) Oklahoma State over TCU:
I am an Oklahoma fan, so you know how hard it is for me to say that the Cowboys have the best offense in the conference, and possibly in the country. Mason Rudolph is going to have a huge year against the defenses of this conference, and he has great receivers that he is throwing to. TCU wont be able to keep up.
(10) Penn State over Iowa:
Hey, Penn State is back! My ten point favorites are back in the top slot against an Iowa team that has trouble moving the ball. Iowa was fortunate to beat rival Iowa State, and let North Texas rack up yards on them. There was no garbage time involved. The Mean Green hung around most of the game. Penn State has done nothing but dominate. Iowa may hang around at home, but they are still going to lose by double digits.
