After the epic collapse in Week 1 that put Kevin Sumlin firmly on the hot seat, Texas A&M has bounced back with two straight wins. They of course came against two programs that they were supposed to beat.

The Aggies now begin conference play against Arkansas. As mentioned, this is a game both coaches need to win and the loser is likely going to find themselves in a very bad position with their job status.

Sumlin has a chance to really capitalize here if his team can prove the opening game was just a fluke. They are in the midst of a stretch where they play eight out nine games at home. While they have some tough opponents, that’s the type of schedule they need to clean up on.

We know that Sumlin has been on a rocky status for some time now and that it’s going to take something rather impressive to save his job. Taking care of his home games is something that will go a long way at this point.

Yes, they have to play Alabama during that stretch. But if they come away with at least six or seven wins in those eight games, his tenure will appear to be a lot more safe than it might have been after the UCLA game.
