The No. 16 TCU Horned Frogs upset the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater in Week 4. Here are three reasons TCU is a College Football Playoff threat.

We’ve got our first big move in the Big 12 hierarchy. Apparently the TCU Horned Frogs are legit in this Power 5 conference. They throttled the Razorbacks on the road a few weeks ago. Now the Horned Frogs have their first huge win in Big 12 play. The No. 16 Horned Frogs just upset the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys 44-31 in Stillwater.

TCU was one of the first two out in the inaugural College Football Playoff back in the 2014 college football season. After a few years away from being nationally prominent, have the Horned Frogs returned? TCU will be favored in its next five Big 12 contests. Some of those games include West Virginia, at Kansas State and Texas.

The Big 12 gauntlet is always difficult, as each member institution has to play all nine other teams in the Power 5 conference. Now that the Big 12 has a conference championship once again, that only gives the conference more credibility in the eyes of the Selection Committee going forward.

So how good can this Horned Frogs team be? Could it make it all the way to the College Football Playoff as the Big 12 champion? It’s not out of the question and here are three reasons that TCU is a serious College Football Playoff threat this season.

3. TCU’s resume only gets better if it wins in Norman in November

Let’s just say that the Horned Frogs take care of business and win their next five games to improve to 9-0 on the year and 6-0 in conference play. That would have to have the Horned Frogs inside of the top-10 in the first College Football Playoff poll, right?

So what makes the November 11 game so darn intriguing for the Horned Frogs? Well, that will be their next huge test, as they will have to take on a Big 12 behemoth in the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman. Oklahoma has won the Big 12 the last two seasons and is one of the four best teams in the country.

Should TCU upset Oklahoma in this clash of Big 12 titans, that would have to have the Horned Frogs in the top-four for sure in the eyes of the voting committee. There is no conceivable way that the committee could deny a 10-0 (7-0) TCU team with road wins over both Bedlam rivals and K-State from being a College Football Playoff favorite out of the Big 12 in mid-November.

Tack on a road win in Lubbock versus Texas Tech and a gimme game versus Baylor and the Horned Frogs could be 12-0 (9-0) getting fired up for whomever they play in the conference championship. Oklahoma should be undefeated when TCU comes to town. The winner of that game is the best in the Big 12 this season, hands down.
