Tottenham beat West Ham 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday, Sept. 23. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Tottenham maintained their perfect away record against West Ham at the London Stadium in Saturday’s early kickoff, but failed to convince for much of the 90 minutes, and finished the match with 10 men after Serge Aurier’s 70th minute red card.
With Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko playing in central midfield, Spurs had difficulty getting the ball forward to Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the first half. West Ham didn’t pose much of a goal threat either, but created the first decent opening of the match through Marko Arnautovic, who was prevented from testing Hugo Lloris by an excellent last ditch tackle by Aurier.
Unsurprisingly, given the way the two sides were cancelling each other out, it was an error in midfield that led to the opening goal in the 34th minute. Andy Carroll, on as a substitute for the injured Michail Antonio, played the ball straight to Eriksen, who played in Alli to provide the assist for Kane.
West Ham seemed to lose focus after conceding, and gave up another sloppy goal four minutes later. Again, Alli and Kane were involved, the latter finishing after the former’s shot was saved by Joe Hart.
When Eriksen made it 3-0 to Tottenham on the hour mark — a goal which came shortly after an excellent Kane free-kick hit the post — the match appeared to be dead, but Javier Hernandez’s 65th minute header, followed by Aurier’s red card for a truly stupid tackle on Carroll which earned him his second yellow in the 70th minute, gave the Hammers new life.
Tottenham looked like they had done enough to hold on, but Cheikhou Kouyate’s 87th minute header set up a frantic finish. West Ham created a couple of half chances from corners, and Carroll had a decent shout for a penalty turned down, in second-half stoppage time, but the three goal cushion Spurs built up was enough.

Tottenham move into third place with the win, but will likely move down the table after the rest of the weekend’s matches. West Ham are 17th, and will be hoping they don’t end the weekend back in the relegation zone after a decent performance against one of the league’s best sides.
