Wilton Speight injury: Michigan QB leaves game vs. Purdue
By John Buhler
Michigan Wolverines quarterback Wilton Speight gets leveled on hit against the Purdue Boilermakers and had to exit the game in the first half.
The No. 8 Michigan Wolverines went up to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on an improving Purdue Boilermakers team under Jeff Brohm’s watch. Michigan was obviously favored in this game, but head coach Jim Harbaugh can’t like what happened to his starting quarterback Wilton Speight.
Speight would get completely devoured on this sack near midfield. He would have to be helped off the field with an apparent leg injury. Replacing Speight was John O’Korn, as Speight would be taken a few blocks away from Ross-Ade Stadium to have x-rays taken of that injured leg of his.
Michigan has returned to national prominence under Harbaugh, but the quarterback position remains a mystery for this team. Speight hasn’t exactly moved the needle quarterbacking the Wolverines in Ann Arbor the last few years.
With that leg injury looking to be serious, it will be up to the former transfer O’Korn to lead the Wolverines on the road. Michigan is 3-0 on the year, but still hasn’t broken through as the best team in the Big Ten yet.
Arch rival Ohio State already has a loss on the season, but division rival Penn State might be the best team in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions won the conference championship last year over Wisconsin. We might see a rematch in Indianapolis in December.
The Michigan team we see right now will play totally different once the weather changes in a few weeks. Michigan has more talent that Purdue and should win this game over the Boilermakers going away.

That being said, Brohm has brought a competitive edge to the Purdue football program already. It’s not earth-shattering, but when was the last time Purdue wasn’t an easy out in the Big Ten? Kyle Orton might have been quarterbacking the Boilermakers.
