College Football Rankings 2017: Projected Top 25 after Week 4
No. 5: USC Trojans (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 4: No. 5
It wasn’t pretty again this week for Sam Darnold and the USC Trojans, but a 10-point win on the road against an in-state rival is always a good thing for your program.17 points in the fourth quarter and a big nine-catch, 76-yard performance from Deontay Burnett kept the Trojans unbeaten this season.
No. 4: Penn State Nittany Lions (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 4: No. 4
Holy tight window to win the game, Trace McSorley. It took a ridiculous throw from McSorley on the game’s final play against a game Iowa bunch to survive Kinnick Stadium on Saturday night. Also, Saquon Barkley is winning the September Heisman Trophy race right now. He’s not human.
No. 3: Oklahoma Sooners (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 4: No. 3
So, Baker Mayfield calls himself Baylor’s daddy before kickoff on Saturday and then the Sooners and Bears play one of the best games of the entire weekend in a 49-41 shootout in typical Big 12 fashion. Lot of points, lots of touchdowns and nail-biting shootouts. That’s what the Big 12 does. The Sooners almost laid a humongous egg in Waco, but did just enough to remain unbeaten.
No. 2: Clemson Tigers (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 4: No. 2
It wasn’t easy for a lot of the day for Kelly Bryant and Clemson against a rough-and-tough defense in Boston College that got gashed by Notre Dame’s rushing attack last week, but the Tigers pulled away late and cruised to a comfortable victory. It helps when you have arguably the best defense in the country north of Alabama.

No. 1: Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0)
Ranking coming into Week 4: No. 1
Alabama beat Vanderbilt by 59 points and outgained them by basically 600 total yards. There’s no doubt who still rules the roost in college football. The Tide rolled all over the upstart Commodores on the road to remain unbeaten on the season.
