Seahawks at Titans: Highlights, score and recap

The Tennessee Titans beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 on Sunday, 33-27. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and the final score.

It was an exciting inter-conference matchup in the Music City on Sunday afternoon. With it coming down to the final possession, the Seattle Seahawks would fail on the onside kick. The Tennessee Titans would get a big home victory over Seattle 33-27 to improve to 2-1 on the year. Seattle falls to 1-2 on the year.

The difference in this game was actually a few busted coverages by the Seahawks defense. Wide receiver Rishard Matthews had a 55-yard touchdown reception from Marcus Mariota. Running back DeMarco Murray channeled yesteryear and found pay dirt of the 75-yard variety later in the game.

Seattle leaned on its star quarterback Russell Wilson for the entire second half. He threw the ball 49 times and has his team within a possession of victory. Wilson wasn’t overly accurate, but he put this struggling team on his back and almost pulled out an upset victory on the road.

That being said, Tennessee got a big win at home to be in control of the AFC South. The Titans’ head-to-head win over the rival Jacksonville Jaguars gives them the tiebreaker atop the division. Tennessee was far from perfect, but proved it could hold its own against a worthy adversary at home.

Seattle may have honestly seen its Super Bowl window close. The defense is still complaining about offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell’s playing calling in Super Bowl XLIX going on three years ago. While the offense lost that Super Bowl, it was the defense that let Seattle down on Sunday. At least they get to play at home next week on Sunday night.

1. Marcus Mariota: Mariota completed 20 of 32 passes for 225 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He averaged 7.0 yards per attempt and had a quarterback rating of 104.3 Mariota also rushed the ball seven times for 27 yards.
2. Russell Wilson: Wilson completed 29 of 49 passes for 373 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He averaged 7.6 yards per attempt and had a quarterback rating of 110.3. Wilson also ran the ball seven times for 26 yards.
3. Rishard Matthews: Matthews had six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Next Game

The Seahawks will play the 1-2 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football at home in Week 4. Kickoff from CenturyLink Field will be at 8:30 p.m. ET on October 1. NBC will have the national telecast.
