WWE WrestleMania 34: Match card predictions after No Mercy
After the WWE No Mercy pay-per-view, let’s take a way-too-early look at the projected WrestleMania 34 match card.
WrestleMania 34 seems far away, but the road to the show is already halfway complete. It takes place on Apr. 8, 2018 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA. WrestleMania was held there in 2014.
Sunday’s WWE No Mercy pay-per-view didn’t tease a match for WrestleMania, something that won’t happen for another few months. However, given the direction some of these WWE superstars are heading, it opens their potential path to the Show of Shows, no matter how early it is.
So, after No Mercy, how does the projected WrestleMania 34 match card look? Let’s take a look.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
New Day (c) vs. The Authors of Pain
With the rate, The New Day and The Usos are trading the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. It’s a feud that might go on until the end of time. The WWE will end it at some point, and when it does, look for tougher competition.
The Authors of Pain won’t be an immediate challenger for The New Day. However, they should make their way to the SmackDown Tag Team Division by the fall or winter, if WWE chooses to move them up from NXT.
It’s a matchup of fan favorites against a monster tag team at WrestleMania 34. Akam and Rezar started out green when they debuted in 2016, but rose with their in-ring ability (recall their TakeOver matches with DIY) and became a powerful force in NXT. They represent the most intriguing battle for Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, with the chance to put on a show-stealing match.
Kurt Angle vs. Triple H
Since Stephanie McMahon took a table bump and Triple H lost at WrestleMania 33, they’ve been nonexistent on Raw. Kurt Angle took over as General Manager for Mick Foley, and it’s been all him since.
It seems inevitable that McMahon and Triple H will return to Raw at some point. When they do, it might be a power struggle with Angle. If so, look for a battle at WrestleMania 34 to settle the score.
This isn’t exactly a “dream” match, as Angle and Triple H are past their primes. Plus, there are a few dozen superstars on the Olympic Gold Medalist hasn’t faced in the WWE. Those would be more interesting. For the spectacle and potential story, don’t be surprised if WWE opts for the power struggle.
