Louisville receives notice that school is under FBI investigation

As we learn more information about the FBI investigation into college basketball wrongdoings, Louisville has acknowledged they’re being looked at as well.
To say that college basketball ruled the sports newswire on Tuesday is one of the biggest understatements one can make, although it certainly wasn’t for good reason. The day started off with the bombshell news that four assistants from four big-name schools were arrested by the FBI and hit with corruption charges. Initially, the University of Louisville was not specifically implicated in the investigation, however, as folks did some more digging, it started to become clear that Rick Pitino’s program may also be one of the schools that may have to also cooperate with the FBI.
Well just a shirt while after the US Attorney’s Office held a press conference detailing their entire investigation, the school as informed everyone that they have indeed received a notice that the FBI is investigating them as well.
Obviously, this is not good news whatsoever for Pitino and the program as a whole, that goes without saying. More specifically, this all means that Louisville potentially committed some serious penalties while they were already on probation, which is a big no-no when it comes to the NCAA. Respected college basketball writer Yahoo’s Pat Forde pointed this out in a little more detail, and as he alluded to, as this investigation goes on you can expect to have the words “Death Penalty” thrown around pretty liberally.

Pitino is already suspended for the first five conference games of this upcoming season, but after the reveal here of the FBI investigation, that really seems to be the least of the worries for the legendary head coach.
It will be interesting watching all of this develop going forward, because as the US Attorney stated pretty clearly in his press conference on Tuesday morning, this is really all just getting started and the investigations are ongoing.
