Deshaun Watson donates first game check to Hurricane Harvey victims
By Mark Gunnels
Rookie Deshaun Watson has shown great promise on the field, but he’s even better off the field.
Before the season, the Houston Texas decided to start Tom Savage. However, that experiment didn’t even last one full game. With rookie Deshaun Watson as the starter, Houston is (1-1) and that loss was a hard-fought battle against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
While Watson gets paid to win football games, the city of Houston has gone through much bigger things. Hurricane Harvey has come and gone, but the effect of the horrific storm is still present. The storm affected thousands of people. Three of the citizens affected work inside the cafeteria in NRG stadium.

Instead of blowing his first NFL game check on a new car, new house, and etc, Watson did something much more meaningful. The former Heisman winner decided to help out those three workers in the cafeteria.
Before this gesture, Watson was already a likable figure. He’s down to earth, humble and works very hard at his craft. Even when Watson has off days in the future, Texans fans can never say he didn’t give his all.
Heading into the draft, fans and media members alike raved about Watson’s competitive nature. Sure, this can be overstated sometimes, but it truly fits here. If you need any more evidence, just go back and watch Watson compete against Alabama in the National Championship. If that’s not enough, just go back to this past Sunday in Foxborough.
Nonetheless, only time will tell if Watson will live up to expectations. One thing we don’t have to worry about is Watson performing off the field, however. The city of Houston is very fortunate to have someone of Watson’s character in the community.
