Even with Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams narrowly evading injury in Week 4, the Green Bay Packers don’t plan to sign other running backs at this time.

Though the Green Bay Packers clobbered their NFC North rival Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football in Week 4 35-14, it wasn’t without a handful of scares on the field for Green Bay. The Packers saw several players on their roster get hurt, including their two best running backs.

Converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery might be playing with broken ribs, but Green Bay isn’t going to let that be known until the team has to. Rookie running back Jamaal Williams out of BYU also suffered a minor knee injury on Thursday night.

Regardless of both players being able to come out of the game potentially able to play next week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Green Bay doesn’t plan on bringing anybody else into the Packers running back room at this time.

This is typical Green Bay. The Packers are notorious for using NFL free agency the least out of any team in football. Even with Montgomery and Williams banged up, it’s not like the Packers are an elite running team any way.

As long as the Packers have quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center, they can be a team with Super Bowl aspirations. However, the Packers won’t be able to cakewalk through the NFC North this year.

The Bears’ loss on Thursday night was largely self-inflicted. We all saw that snap that went off Bears quarterback Mike Glennon’s knee. The Detroit Lions look to be a balanced team that can get back into the playoffs. Even the Minnesota Vikings look to be a playoff contender.

Yet Green Bay is going to stick with the same beat up backs for another week. That being said, the Packers will have 10 days to get right physically before Week 5’s road game versus the Dallas Cowboys. Expect Montgomery and Williams’ health to improve in the next 10 days. However, it’s troubling to see the Packers’ two lead backs get hurt this early in the season.
