25 biggest pro wrestling ‘what ifs’ of the past 25 years

14. What if Triple H had stayed with Chyna?
Speaking of one of the biggest draws in professional wrestling history, Triple H certainly can make a claim to being on that list and he now helps run a billion dollar company. However, could we say that today had he stayed with Chyna instead of dating the boss’s daughter?
Triple H’s knowledge of the industry as a whole is phenomenal. He’s made NXT into a brand of its own, been the driving force behind a number of successful ventures that we never thought possible in WWE and the future of the company is secure with he and Stephanie steering the ship once Vince decides to step down. Well, I suppose that’s if Vince ever decides to actually do that. Nevertheless, Trips is a player (there’s a Game reference in there somewhere) and even before he started dating Stephanie, his career was on the rise.
After Shawn Michaels retired for the first time following WrestleMania XIV, Triple H took over DX and really did make it his own. That was his time to shine and he certainly made the most of it. He won his first WWE Championship the following year and he was on his way. However, it really wasn’t until his storyline marriage to Stephanie that his character really started to blossom and for nearly two years, the McMahon-Helmsley Era dominated the industry. He went on to have a great program with Mick Foley, won more world titles and became one of the biggest stars the industry had ever seen.
It was around this time that storyline had turned into reality and word came that Triple H and Stephanie were actually dating in real life. Chyna had gone on to find some success on her own but she was gone from the company in 2001 after she claimed she was sent home to let her contract expire after a meeting with Vince about the Stephanie situation. So there’s another “what if” scenario. Would Chyna’s career and life gone differently had Triple H not left her for Stephanie? I think we can definitively say yes on that one.
As far as Triple H is concerned, I have no doubt that he would have still had a successful career had he stayed with Chyna. His passion for professional wrestling is second to none and his in-ring presence and prowess is fantastic. He likely still would have had many title reigns and a Hall of Fame career but would it have been as big and would he be in the position that he’s in now had he stayed with Chyna. Probably not. I could see him being an agent of some sort but we probably wouldn’t have gotten the matches of the last few years had he taken a role like that. He wouldn’t be next in line for the big desk and The Authority angle probably never happens. There’s a lot of ways this could have gone but for the sake of the company’s future, it’s probably best things went down the way they did.
