Week 5 of the college football season is in the books, and with that, we take a look at a projection of the College Football Playoff.
With each passing week of the college football season, the race for the four spots in the College Football Playoff gets more intense. In Week 5, the game of the week pitted two ACC teams ranked in the top-15 in the country. The Clemson Tigers, who are ranked No. 2 in the nation, went into Blacksburg and beat Virginia Tech, cementing their spot as one of the top four teams in the country.
In the Big Ten, the Penn State Nittany Lions got another incredible effort from Heisman candidate Saquon Barkley. The junior running back not only returned a kick for a touchdown, but also threw for a score, showing why he is considered the best player in all of college football. On Friday night, USC lost on the road to Washington State, and will now have to run the table once again if they hope to be considered for the College Football Playoff.
Incredibly, we will hit the Week 6 mark next weekend, and for most teams, they are still very much alive in the College Football Playoff race. Some of the top teams in the country have looked very beatable this season, and you never know what will happen during the conference championships. Teams need to just focus on the task at hand, because the parity in college football is so great that any team can fall any week.
With the top teams in the country finishing up their games on Saturday night, we take a look at what we feel the College Football Playoff would look like if the season ended tomorrow. There are some familiar faces on our list, but with the tough parts of their schedules coming up, this list could be changing with each passing week.
Here is our College Football Playoff projection after Week 5.
