College Football Week 5 has come and gone, with some more questions answered as the season marches on.

Well, for the most part, Week 5 of the college football season is in the books as we close the chapter that is the month of September in 2017. With conference schedules getting into full swing now, we’re starting to learn more and more about teams and players from around the country.

We all have questions heading into a particular week of college football, and Week 5 was absolutely no different. Here are a few of the thoughts that were given some definitive answers on Saturday.

3. Is Virginia Tech ready to be the top team in the ACC?

Answer: Nope. Matter of fact, Clemson really might be the best team in the country.

Saturday night in the marquee matchup on ABC, we got what many thought could end up being the best ACC game of the season, as the Clemson Tigers traveled to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a rematch of last year’s ACC title game. With the way the Hokies have played to open up the season, some assumed that Justin Fuente’s squad was ready to dethrone Dabo Swinney and Clemson as the top team in the conference.

Well, we not only learned that there is clearly no better team in the conference than the Tigers, but the defending national champs might actually have an argument as the best team in the land.

Clemson had no trouble in the hostile environment that is Lane Stadium, coming away with the 31-17 win. Once again, defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ unit was smothering and quarterback Kelly Bryant continued to show everyone that he’s only going to get better and better, which is a frightening thought for everyone of Clemson’s opponents the rest of the way. Right now, it’s looking as if Clemson and Alabama — who just obliterated Ole Miss on Saturday — are on a collision course to give us part 3 of their saga.

As for Fuente and the Hokies? Well, they’re on the right track under the direction of the man who succeeded Frank Beamer, but they’re not quite at the level yet of a Clemson. To be fair, though, not many are.
