The Los Angeles Chargers were looking for their first win of the season on Sunday, as they welcomed the Philadelphia Eagles to the StubHub Center.

The Philadelphia Eagles made the trip out West in Week 4, as they traveled to Carson, California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. Playing in what seemed like in front of a home crowd, the Eagles got off to a fast start against the Chargers, as Carson Wentz hit Alshon Jeffery for a score in the first quarter. Los Angeles countered with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to Terrence Williams, and the teams went into the locker room with the score at 16-10 thanks to some good kicking.

A Jake Elliott field goal was the only scoring in the third quarter, as the two teams went to the final frame with the Eagles up 19-10. Then the fireworks started, as the Chargers once again would not go away without a fight. After a Austin Ekeler 35-yard touchdown run, the Eagles bounced back due to a Wendell Smallwood three-yard score. Two minutes later, Rivers hit Hunter Henry to bring the Chargers within two, but that would end up being the final score of the game, as the Eagles won 26-24.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. LeGarrette Blount, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles were hoping that LeGarrette Blount would supply a punch on offense this season, and he certainly did that on Sunday. The veteran running back did not find the end zone, but he kept the Chargers defense on their heels all afternoon. He finished the game with over 130 yards, and gave the Eagles the kind of pounding run game they were lacking last season.

2. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

Philip Rivers kept bringing his team back on Sunday, even though they ended up losing another close game. The veteran signal-caller went for 347 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while doing a nice job protecting the ball. Everytime the Eagles looked to pull away, Rivers led them back, but they still came up a bit short.

3. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles

The second-year signal-caller continues to grow as a passer, and he showed incredible poise against the Chargers. With the Chargers continuing to come back all afternoon, Wentz kept his Eagles in front, making big pass after big pass. The Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFC this season, and the growth of Wentz is a big reason why.

Betting Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles came into this game as a one-point road underdog, and they showed they were the better team in this one. The over/under was set at 47.5, and it went over, though it looked throughout the first three quarters that it would be a low-scoring game. Next Week

In Week 5 of the NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles will return home to Lincoln Financial, as they welcome the Arizona Cardinals to the City of Brotherly Love. The Chargers will head East to take on the New York Giants in a game that has a smaller meaning after both teams have started the year so poorly.
