On Sunday afternoon in Foxborough, the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots fell to the Carolina Panthers. What did we learn?

For those who think that the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots aren’t truly having defensive issues this season, then you have not seen the team play or you are just totally disillusioned.

Those problems reared their ugly helmets once again on Sunday afternoon at Foxborough. And it was another wild affair for Bill Belichick’s team.

This time, the Pats weren’t as lucky as a week ago as the Carolina Panthers came away with a 33-30 win.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Cam Newton

From one of his worst performances to one of his best. Newton looked like Cam Newton on Sunday against the Patriots. His team rolled up 444 yards of total offense and he would throw for 316 yards and three scores with one interception. Newton also ran for 44 yards and a score as the team raised its record to 3-1 this season.

2. Tom Brady

The veteran miracle worker did his best to rally the troops. The team trailed 30-16 in the fourth quarter before Brady led his team to the tying points. He finished with 307 yards through the air and connected for a pair of scores. But it wasn’t enough against the inspired Carolina Panthers.

3. Devin Funchess

He was targeted a team-high nine times and caught seven passes for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Carolina’s upset win at Foxborough.

Odds

The defending Super Bowl champions were once again prohibitive favorites at home and once again found themselves in a free-for-all. And for the fourth time in as many games, any game involving the Patriots means taking the over.
