Here’s how the college football Power Five conferences stack up following week five action.

With conference play well underway for all Power Five teams across college football, a number of title contenders are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the nation.

Week five didn’t provide much in terms of upsets or crazy finishes, but a few games had a big impact on the race to the College Football Playoff. There’s no doubt about who the top two teams in the country are, as Alabama kept rolling with a 66-3 destruction of Ole Miss, while Clemson earned another impressive road win by shutting down Virginia Tech 31-17.

The most notable national result of the weekend came on Friday night in Pullman, where Washington State announced itself as a national contender with a 30-27 victory over USC. Oklahoma State also survived a road showdown with Texas Tech, leaving two undefeated teams in the Big 12.

Saturday’s games could have a long-term impact on the SEC after a pair of sliding teams with coaches on the hot seat turned in awful performances. Troy stunned LSU in one of the most shocking upsets of the year, while the Butch Jones’ fate at Tennessee might be sealed following a 41-0 destruction at the hands of Georgia.

Even with everything going mostly chalk, the college football conference power rankings look a little different heading into week six. The Pac-12 has fallen even further behind the rest of the Power Five, while the SEC jumped up two spots behind a trio of teams who look capable of challenging anybody in the country.
