The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team. Who poses the biggest threat to them?
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a Monday night victory against the Washington Redskins that included the most brutal backdoor cover in recent memory. The win keeps the Chiefs as the only undefeated team left in football — a streak that all future opponents will be coming for.
Kansas City has beaten some really good teams this season including the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots on the road. Add a really good Redskins team to the list, and the 4-0 start isn’t something to be taken lightly.
The only question that remains is who’s going to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season?
Why the Chiefs might lose
The deck seems stacked against the Chiefs from the start on this one. The team just played in a primetime Monday night slot, and have them play again on a short week on the road. To make matters even worse for the Chiefs; they have to travel to Houston and play a confident Texans team. Throw in the fact that the Chiefs offensive line is beaten up, and it’s a recipe for disaster.
The Texans took the Tennessee Titans out to the woodshed on Sunday, and beat them 57-14. Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson looked like he was back in the National Championship game against Alabama with the way he had the Titans defense running in circles.
Watson’s legs could pose a problem for the Chiefs’ defense because mobile quarterbacks are a problem for any team. Outside linebacker Dee Ford is still dealing with a back injury and his status is unknown for Week 5. Tack on the fact that the Chiefs aren’t particularly fast at the linebacker position, and you might see more of Daniel Sorensen playing the dime linebacker spot this week.
How the Chiefs can win
Deshaun Watson has looked really great since being named the starter for the Texans. That being said he’s still a rookie, and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton has been around a long time. The last two weeks Watson hasn’t faced a defense like the Chiefs.
The Patriots have been turning guys loose in the secondary at a historical rate (like, worse than the 2015 Saints bad); and the Titans are an average defense. The Chiefs, however, can shut any given offense down.
The Chiefs haven’t allowed a single quarterback this season to complete 60 percent or more of their passes in any game this season.
The Texans do have a really good defense, so it will be important to follow the game plan. Andy Reid is about as good as it gets when it comes to finding favorable match-ups. They just need to do what they do best. Keep it close and once the fourth quarter comes, hand the ball to Kareem Hunt.
